CryptoClaw, tested with real money

The agent reading Venus's contracts, writing its own skill, then supplying BNB and borrowing USDT.

About the project

CryptoClaw is TermiX's version of OpenClaw, an open-source AI assistant. I gave it a real wallet with tiny amounts to see how far it could go with crypto lending and trading on its own, and let it write its own instructions when it got stuck.

OpenClaw is an open-source AI assistant, and CryptoClaw is TermiX's version of it for crypto. An agent like that is only as good as its skills: short instruction files that teach it how to use a protocol.

I wanted to know how far it could really go with money on the line. So I gave it a real wallet with tiny amounts and a series of DeFi tasks, and when it reached something it didn't know, I told it to write the skill itself.

How it works

  1. Warm up

A BNB transfer, a swap on PancakeSwap, and a supply and borrow on Aave, with skills it already had.

  2. No skill? Write one

Asked to borrow on Curve, the agent read Curve's docs and API and wrote its own skill.

  3. Find the cheapest route

It chose Arbitrum and bridged funds there with Stargate, including gas.

  4. Switch when stuck

The Curve loan kept failing, so it checked Venus on chain, wrote a second skill, and borrowed USDT against BNB.

  5. Add Binance

Binance's 7 official skills were added and tested for market data, token checks and trading.

What I did

  • Took the agent through a full test with real funds: a BNB transfer, a swap on PancakeSwap, and a supply and borrow on Aave
  • Asked it to borrow on Curve. It had no skill for that, so I told it to build one: it read Curve's docs and API and wrote the skill itself
  • Set the goal as the cheapest route. It chose Arbitrum and bridged funds there with Stargate, including gas
  • When the Curve loan kept failing, switched to Venus on BNB Chain. The agent checked Venus on chain, wrote a second skill, then supplied 0.001 BNB and borrowed 0.35 USDT
  • Added Binance's 7 official skills unchanged and tested them: trending and meme tokens, smart-money signals, wallet lookups, token audits and spot trading

What was new

  • An agent writing a skill from live docs and on-chain reads, then using it in the same session
  • How lending really works across Aave, Venus and Curve, and bridging with a gas drop
  • You need the chain's own gas token to do anything. Holding the asset isn't enough

Problems I hit, and how I fixed them

  1. Curve lending doesn't exist on BNB Chain.

Fix Use Arbitrum, the cheapest chain that has it.

  2. The Arbitrum wallet had no gas.

Fix Bridge with a gas drop. The first try attached about 1,000 times too much as the fee; the agent resent it correctly.

  3. The Curve loan reverted again and again.

Fix Not fixed. Switched to Venus, which worked.

  4. Binance's skills failed on GPT-4o.

Fix Told the agent to call the APIs directly, and switched to a newer model. Live data came back.

To be clear

The 7 Binance skills are Binance's, copied unchanged. The Curve and Venus skills were written by the agent at my direction, not by hand, and the Curve one has a broken address in it. None of this was committed.
