The xCuriosity site, and the design file it came from.

About the project

Projects with my friend Jay Prakash Pathak: xCuriosity (a coding course site and its admin), knbill (a desktop billing app) and Roojgaar (a job portal built in two days).

In early 2021, my friend Jay Prakash Pathak and I built small products together. These four repos are the first time I worked in a team on real code: xCuriosity, a coding course website with its admin panel; knbill, a billing app for the desktop; and Roojgaar, a job portal four of us built in two days.

I was the designer and the front-end person: designs in Adobe XD, pages, styling and animations. Jay wrote most of the logic and the backends.

Under the hood

xCuriosity
A course site in Next.js and Tailwind, with a seminar registration form.
Admin panel
React, for news posts and registrations.
knbill
An Electron desktop app for billing.
Roojgaar
A job portal where workers get hired directly by employers.

What I did

  • Designed xCuriosity in Adobe XD, then built most of its front end: the seminar registration page with validation and reCAPTCHA, the about, FAQ and contact sections
  • Scroll-in animations
  • Styled the admin panel's login, dashboard and news editor
  • The animated, responsive login screen of the billing app
  • The "Hire me" page and animations for Roojgaar

What was new

  • My first Next.js and Tailwind
  • Designing before coding
  • Working in a shared repo with branches

Problems I hit, and how I fixed them

  1. My first scroll animation faded every section in at once.

Fix Wrapped each section on its own, 11 minutes later.

  2. All the admin styles lived in one file.

Fix Split them into one file per page.

To be clear

Much of the registration form's CSS came from a free template. My part in Roojgaar, a four-person build, was small.
